About Me

My Background

  About Me

Connecting souls through art is the mission that came to me at the end of a meditation programme. It felt true in a way that was immediate and unmistakable. I have been drawing all my life and have always loved meeting people. Only later did I realise that this simple combination is my path. Drawing helps me see people more deeply and it gives me a way to bring them together.

Portraits and especially self‑portraits, have been my way of keeping my skills alive since leaving art school. I have always known that I needed to practise continuously. I can feel the difference the moment I stop. Capturing a likeness is one of the greatest challenges in portraiture. When I was invited to draw at events I had to work fast so I began developing my two‑minute one‑line portraits many of which are shown here.

For these drawings, I scan the person’s face with full attention and I keep my pen on the paper without lifting it. Working this way takes me beyond first impressions. It creates a quiet focused connection that feels almost meditative. I recognised the same experience in my work as a professional image consultant where I help people express who they are on the inside through what they wear. In both practices something shifts when the connection is made. It is as rewarding for the sitter as for me and I can teach anyone to do it.

I am passionate about the benefits of drawing. It calms the mind, sharpens perception, builds confidence and creates meaningful human moments. My intention now is to share this experience more widely and to use drawing as a bridge between people. Between strangers, friends, colleagues, the curious, the shy and the lonely. Drawing brings us together in a way that is simple, honest and deeply human.

In 2023 my business partner and I opened Portraits International an art gallery and academy in the Royal Galleries of Saint Hubert, Brussels. We organised 7 exhibitions by renowned artists.  Unfortunately we had to close but the cultural club we created still continues. We meet regulary to go to exhibitions, the opera and concerts together. I also continue to run art classes and organise drawing events with others in cafés, parks and my home. Just contact me to find out more.

In the meantime if you are curious, the gallery website and instagram page still exists. A dream project  that I hope to bring back to life one day: www.portraits.international @portraits___international
